Contributions
We want you!
The Flemington Kensington News encourages submissions from anyone who lives, works or is otherwise connected to the Flemington and Kensington communities.
Our newspaper has been going for over 40 years because of the hard work and dedication of community members like yourself. So if you have a passion for storytelling and the people of Flemington and Kensington, we want to hear from you!
We publish quarterly, and distribute 10,000 copies of each edition of the Flemington Kensington News to local shops, homes and community spaces.
All contributions are voluntary. You can read our full editorial guidelines here.
What we publish
Contributions may inform people of events, issues and groups in a way which represents the diversity of lifestyles and cultures in the area. Your contribution might be about showcasing photos or artwork by locals, or sharing any other items of interest generally relevant to Flemington and Kensington places and people.
How to get your story published
We encourage you to get in touch by contacting fkneditors@gmail.com if you want to contribute a story or have questions about the process.
Here are a few handy tips to get you started:
Articles generally need to be 400-450 words
You can provide a short title for your piece (ideally 4-5 words), but we may need to alter the title to fit the layout of the paper
We love pairing photos and pictures with your story! Please include an image or two, and let us know who created it so we can properly acknowledge their work. If you are not the creator of the photo, we will require their written permission to reproduce it.
Help us get you published
Some helpful tips! In preparing your story, we ask that you pay attention to the following:
If you are interviewing somebody, please let them know from the outset your intention to produce a story for the Flemington Kensington News;
Avoid submitting content that has been gathered by deceptive or unfair means;
Let us know if you have any relationships that you think might constitute a conflict of interest;
If the article makes claims, the editorial needs to be able to fact-check them (you can include references/links to help the editorial team with this);
We won’t publish articles that have already published elsewhere;
We won’t publish images if you don’t have the permission from the person who created them;
We won’t publish anything we consider to be sexist, ageist, racist, or in any other way unfairly discriminating or divisive of the community, or potentially defamatory.
How to send us your work
Send us the text for your article as a Microsoft Word document, plain text document, or in an email.
Include the title of the article up the top, author name(s) directly underneath, and then the text of the article. Please also include any image captions or information about the creator of an image at the end of the article.
Please send all images separately (avoid placing them in a Word document). We prefer high-resolution images (180-300 dpi). JPEGs, PNG or TIFF files are the preferred file types.
Ask us for a copy of our printing schedule. This will give you a sense of when you need to send your contribution in in order to be published in each edition.
All contributions can be sent to the editorial team at fkneditors@gmail.com.
